Sometimes, I think I like Supertramp about as much as my friend Patrick hates it.
To wit, the first song from Crime of the Century:
Rock.

I just realized that one line of lyrics from the Pixies’ “Bone Machine” says:
Our love is rice and beans and horses lard
Possibly one of the best lines ever.
In other related things, I just bought a few Pixies DVDs.
“Pixies: Acoustic Live in Newport” is great so far. Good sound, interesting performance.
I also purchased “The Pixies Sell Out 2004″ DVD. It’s nice, but the audio is complete shit. The majority of the DVD is footage from a European rock festival in France, and I have an “unofficial” DVD copy of this show that was taken from the live digital broadcast. Some guy in France recorded it to his computer (uncompressed) and then made a DVD from it. And on this homemade DVD the audio is vastly superior to the official “Sell Out” DVD. What a shame for the official version. I’m going to write to Rhino Home Video (the label) and ask them what is going on. You would think that they would have access to source material that is even better than what was broadcast in France. But I guess not, since the “Sell Out” DVD audio sounds like muffled FM radio.
Also, the menu system on the DVD makes you wait about 30 seconds before you can make a selection and start the video. Included in this mandatory intro is a closeup shot of some dude bobbing his head at one of the shows. Which I don’t really care to see over and over. Why not just present the menu immediately? I’m tired of all the masturbatory animation that some DVD companies put before the menus, especially when they temporarily “lock” your DVD player and prevent you from bypassing the crap. Ugh.
Just a few things…
My classes are wonderful. It’s my last semester. I applied for a paid internship with the USDA FAS in Spain. Keep your fingers crosssed for me. It’ll be a great way to pass the time between graduation in December and grad school next Fall. Speaking of grad school, I’m applying to NCSU’s Crop Science program to work on my PhD with a focus in sustainable agriculture. Gotta take the GRE soon (ew).
I’ve become friends with an amazing girl who is a Physics major. We like to watch episodes of Firefly together and be total nerds. Our schedules don’t line up very often, but it’s working out.
Frank Black is playing at the Roxy Theatre in Atlanta in a couple months. YES!
My friend Sadai from Bolivia is doing her internship at UGA for the next 3 months. I pick her up at the airport this Saturday. She’s awesome, and promised to teach me how to cook Bolivian food if I teach her how to speak better English. Sounds like a deal to me.
I bought a 30gb video iPod. And a Pentax *ist DL digital DSL camera for only $433 (new! with a lens!). Plus a replacement copy of 1491 and another interesting book called Freakonomics. Lemons into lemonade, right?
That’s about it for now. I am alive.
