Just a quick update for whoever wants to know:
I made it to Portland, OR. It’s at least 1000 times better than Georgia. No, I’m not kidding in the least. I already love it here and am definitely not looking forward to the day that I have to move back east. One good thing is that at least I no longer have to worry about where I want to live when I finish grad school. I’m already here.
The family that I’m living with is amazing. I live on the second floor of their house and share a kitchen with the step dad who lives on the third floor. I couldn’t have picked a better living arrangement if I had tried. But the best part about living here is the people. Matthew and his wife Tina are two of the greatest individuals that I have ever met. And their five kids are adorable and incredibly smart… I love them already. I’m definitely lucky to be living here for the next 4 1/2 months.
My job seems like it will be awesome as well. I got the grand tour today and start actual work tomorrow. It’s a 15 mile ride, but they are loaning me a truck to use when the weather is bad. No complaints here.
I’ll finish typing up my trip journals soon and also sort through and upload some of my pics.

1) To quit being friends with flaky, inconsiderate, idiotic people who obviously don’t give a damn about me. If you don’t make the effort, I won’t either.
2) Become better friends with those whom I’ve met in 2006, like Danila Rhoades, Halley Granitz, Mike Plattner, Heather Havey and Lisa Manglass.
3) Exercise more often with the following goals: Reduce my body fat by at least 6%. Double the amount of weight that I can bench and lift. Do 50 pushups in 2 minutes.
4) Put more miles on my bike than on my car.
5) Bank $5,000 by the end of the year.

I rode out to Rose Hill Cemetery a couple days ago. The mission was to take a picture for one of my friends in Romania. But I ended up taking a few more. Here’s the one I took for her:

Well, it’s been an interesting 10 years.
Went to school for 3 years. Didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life.
Ran my own publishing company for a few years while in school. Sold it.
Dropped out, worked in Atlanta for a while making $4,000/month.
Moved to Vermont for a year, worked as a prep cook in an Asian restaurant.
Joined the Air Force, served 3 years including 98 days in Saudi Arabia.
Worked as a cable guy for several months while waiting to start school.
Went back to college, majored in Horticulture at UGA.
And now, I graduate in 4 weeks.
Then I’m taking time off to trek from coast-to-coast and back on my bicycle.
With any luck, this time next year I’ll be at NCSU pursuing an MS in Crop Science.
What a trip!
I woke up this morning, realized what a beautiful day it is, and decided to bike up to Watson Mill Bridge state park to take some pictures and enjoy the weather. Mission accomplished.
These are my favorite pictures.
