Stealth Dune Camping

L and I went to the beach last weekend.

Since there was no plan, we decided to just drive east on Hwy 64 until we hit the Outer Banks, then head south until we found a suitable place to set up camp. Despite that it was Memorial Day we didn’t run into much traffic, making it easier (and less frustrating) to take a look around, enjoy the scenery, and scope out a good place to spend the night. We decided that Pea Island was it.

Ignoring the “Day Use Only” signs, we hid the car behind some construction equipment on a side access road near the dunes. L grabbed the tent and the daypack, while I carried the blankets and air mattress… up and over the dunes into a little hidden pocket that we’d discovered earlier. Nobody could see us, but if we climbed to the top of the dune, we could see everything.

It’s good to get away!

Bye Bye Stanza…

I had to sell my 1987 Nissan Stanza Wagon. We have a newer car and just couldn’t justify keeping it anymore.

Boo hoo hoo.

Check Out The New Glasses

I’ve been living with this girl for 174 days now. Crazy.

But you know what? It doesn’t even feel like it.

Our days go by like two best friends who are just hanging out all the time. We don’t argue, we don’t fight. We’re a team and we work towards goals. It’s not often that we get to do very many spectacular things (at least not like we did in Oregon) — we’re been busier than we were then. But it works, because no matter what, we have each other. We’re going to travel when I’m done with school, and build a house, and start a farm and not be in debt to anybody. If I told you how much money we’ve already saved up in just 6 months you wouldn’t even believe me (trust me, you wouldn’t)… and that doesn’t even count the money that we already used to pay off our 5-figure student loans.

We have plans, and we’re doing it. BFF!

I’m so so so lucky…

BEST. YEAR. EVER.

Uruguay

A group of us from NCSU went to Uruguay from December 7-17th to visit a variety of organic farms and to establish relationships for future studies. Since the climate there is similar to NC, there are a lot of practices that can be used in both places. We saw a lot that impressed us, and a few things that could be improved. This year, a few Uruguayan students are coming to NCSU as part of an exchange program. Yay!

Here are some pics.

The rest are in my CEFS in Uruguay set on Flickr.
